Using Btrieve for Distributed Databases - Andreas Albrecht

Andreas Albrecht of KnowWare Software Systems discusses the issues involved in providing synchronous and asynchronous data replication for Btrieve databases.

Inside Btrieve: Sorting it All Out - Doug Reilly
"When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." If the hammer in your toolkit is Btrieve, this article shows you how to make the task of sorting a text file look like a nail. Doug Reilly presents a simple but powerful command-line sort utility built around a Btrieve intermediate work file. The project takes advantage of Btrieve key attributes to do ascending or descending sorts, to sort on multiple segments, and, optionally, to eliminate duplicate entries.

UDA: What's in the New Microsoft Standard? - Jim Kyle
Now that most of us are acquainted with "Open Database Connectivity" (ODBC), something is coming along to replace it. That "something" goes by the name of the Universal Data Access (UDA). UDA combines "Object Linking and Embedding for Databases" (OLE-DB) with "ActiveX Data Objects" (ADO), to define Microsoft's preferred interface for connecting languages, tools, and end-user applications to data in relational and non-relational storage. Jim Kyle wades through the three-letter acronyms surrounding the new standard, and provides insight into what it may mean for database developers.
