The Smithware management team consists of Scott Smith, president, Steve Mook, vice president, John Scudder, manager of sales and marketing, and Kelly Bliss, manager of technical support.

Scott A. Smith, president

Scott Smith founded Smithware in 1988 with the introduction of BUtility, a Btrieve file utility and maintenance system he developed for personal use in his spare time. His real-world background as a developer has given him excellent insight into the needs of users and developers alike. Through Scott’s efforts, Smithware has established strategic relationships with multimillion dollar companies in order to capitalize on specific software marketing opportunities. He has a proven track record of being able to determine winning strategies for building these corporate alliances. In the course of building Smithware, Scott has worn every hat in the company, software developer through shipping clerk. His current responsibilities are primarily focused around long-range strategic planning for Smithware and include finance administration and general business development. Scott graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1986 with a B.A. degree in mathematics.

Steven A. Mook, vice president

With years of previous Btrieve programming background, Steve Mook joined Smithware to lead the Smithware development team in 1992. Steve’s depth of knowledge has been fundamental to the success of Smithware’s products. His imaginative yet down-to-earth approach to product design and development has maintained Smithware’s edge as the recognized leader in Btrieve add-on tools and utilities. Steve lead the initiative to combine Smithware’s technology with Crystal Reports to produce the leading Btrieve report writing solution, Smithware Crystal Reports for Btrieve. He is personally responsible for the functionality of Smithware products and is in charge of all development operations. He is responsible for Smithware’s new ActiveX Controls for Btrieve and Scalable SQL. Steve graduated in 1986 from Vanderbilt University with a B.A. degree in English and a minor in classical studies.

John Scudder, director of sales and marketing

With a diverse marketing and sales background, John brings valuable experience to the Smithware management team. In his tenure with other multimillion dollar companies he has been instrumental in dozens of successful new product introductions. Currently John is involved in mapping Smithware’s domestic and overseas distribution strategies, marketing programs, advertising, and public relations. John attended Indiana University and California State University at Northridge.

Kelly Bliss, manager of technical support

With previous management and customer service experience in the computer industry, Kelly Bliss heads the Smithware Technical Support team. Creative thinking, persistance, and day-to-day involvement in the world of Btrieve programming help Kelly provide Smithware's customers the speedy and reliable technical assistance which is among the best in the software industry. Kelly has enhanced Smithware's online support by greatly expanding Smithware's Knowledge Base and adding a Btrieve configuration matrix. His responsibilities include handling support requests, keeping the Knowledge Base up-to-date, product testing, and QA. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1995 with a Bachelor's of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and a minor in mathematics.
