Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, is experiencing issues at the moment. Initially, web searches were not possible at all. However, search results now seem to be loading properly.
However, the outage is still affecting Bing's application programming interface (API), which is causing other services relying on Bing to malfunction.
For example, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia, two alternative search engines that use Bing's search results, are currently unable to return any search results. Microsoft Copilot is also not working. In addition, ChatGPT Plus subscribers, who have access to web search capabilities, encounter an error when attempting to search for something.
Once again, an outage highlights the reliance of the web on a few tech companies. The disruption of an API can impact numerous services.
In this case, it is evident how critical Bing's API has become. While Google remains dominant in web search, many services now depend on Bing's API.
Microsoft was not immediately available for comment regarding the outage.
